Hamelin de Trup states that Duncan de Feringdraut, living in the franchise of the abbot of Arbroath, maintains robbers and thieves in this franchise, who robbed Thomas le Graunt of his goods and chattels, and cut off one of his hands, and then went to Duncan and lived with him in the franchise, and are still there, maintaining the aforesaid franchise against the king's franchises, so that no-one can have law or justice against people living in the franchise because of Duncan. They request that the truth of this be inquired into from the good people of Scotland who are present, and others of the country.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ to the king's Lieutenant in Scotland that, when he has inquired into the truth of the contents of the bill, he is to do justice.
