Nature of request
The community of Galloway state that they are oppressed and harmed by a foreign and wrongful law, called 'Surdit de sergaunt', which has not been used since the time of King Alexander III, or for one year before his death, but which the barons and great lords of the country have now resurrected. They request peace from this law.
Nature of endorsement
Coram consilio.The king's Lieutenant and Chamberlain are to be ordered to inquire into to what advantage this is to the king, and what harm to the people; and how it can be emended, if it should be emended, to the advantage of the king and to the benefit of the people; and they are to inform the king about this.

Memoranda de Parliamento, pp.171-2 identifies this with the petition enrolled on roll SC 9/12, from the Lent parliament of 1305. PROME, roll 12, appendix, no. 284, however, notes that the response is different, and thinks that this is a different petition on the same subject, possibly from the autumn parliament of 1305. SAS 13.5.03.
