Nature of request
The bishop of Aberdeen states that one of his prebends, the church of Belhelvie, in the time of King Alexander possessed a piece of land called St Ternan, which was leased at farm by the parson to the thane of Belhelvie, and, after the death of the parson, was wrongly appropriated to the thanage of Belhelvie by the king's ministers, and alienated from the church. He requests an inquisition into this, and that, if it is found to be as he says, that the land be restored to the church.
Nature of endorsement
The king's Lieutenant and the Chamberlain of the Exchequer (sic) are to be ordered are to inquire into the tenant's right and the king's right; and when they have done this, they are to inform the king at the next parliament.
Note
Dated to the period of Edward I's direct rule in Scotland. Like the surrounding petitions, it is likely to be towards the end of this period. See also SC 8/10/452, to which it appears to be related.Henry le Chen was Bishop of Aberdeen from 1282-1328.
