Description
Petitioners
Alexander de Baillol (Balliol) of Cavers.
Name(s)
de Baillol (Balliol), Alexander
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Alexander de Baillol makes two requests:1) As the king has by his letters patent returned all his lands, tenements, goods and chattels, in England or Scotland, which were seized into the king's hand for various reasons, he requests the king's grace for his keepership of the Forest of Selkirk, which he claims as his right and his inheritance, and which he never lost by judgment or merit.2) He requests that he might hold the land of Hassendean until the end of his term, as he has taken it at farm from the king's ministers for five years, and two have passed, and that the money the king owes him in the wardrobe be allowed to him in this farm until he is fully paid.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue before the king's Lieutenant and show his charter if he has one, and he is to have a writ to the Lieutenant to inquire into his right and to inform the king at the next parliament. With regard to the second, he is to go to the Chamberlain, and sue before him, and it is to be ordained by the Chamberlain as seems to him to be to the king's advantage, both with regard to the term granted to him, and to the allowance to be made in his farm for the money owed to him in the wardrobe. With regard to the other, the king is not yet advised.
