Description
Petitioners
Hamelin de Trup (Troup), the father; Hamelin de Trup (Troup), the son.
Name(s)
de Trup (Troup); de Trup (Troup), Hamelin; Hamelin
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Hamelin de Trup, the father, and Hamelin his son complain that Duncan de Feringdraut, sheriff of Banff, sent his men into Hamelin the son's land of Findon at night, and burnt down his houses, seized and imprisoned his men, and took and carried off his goods, his father's goods, and their people's goods - some of which have been returned at the command of the Keeper and some of which have not. An order was given for him to be attached by his body, to prevent him harassing the Hamelins and their people, but this did not stop him assembling the power of his bailiwick, pulling down the houses which he had built and seizing and imprisoning his men, against gage and pledge, until he released them at his own will. He also made himself judge in all manner of pleas concerning the Hamelins, although he was a party and their adversary, against the command of the Keeper. The Hamelins state that the good people of Scotland can attest all this, and request grace and a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ to the king's lieutenant in Scotland that, when the parties have been called before him and their arguments heard, he is to do justice.
