Catherine Block.

Block, Catherine

King.
Nature of request
Catherine Block states that although Jocelin de Gaunt of Lincoln was arrested by a writ of capias at her suit, for certain matters of which he was condemned by Holy Church, as the Archbishop of Canterbury has attested by letter in the king's court, John Gobaud, then sheriff of Lincolnshire, and Hugh Thorn and Richard de Seuerby, then bailiffs of Lincoln, let him go as soon as they had captured him, on their own initiative, before he had made satisfaction to Holy Church or the party for the things for which he was condemned. She requests a remedy, and an answer to this petition.
Nature of endorsement
She is to have a writ in Chancery according to the custom used in these cases.A similar petition will be alienated.
Places mentioned

People mentioned
Jocelin de Gaunt (Gant)
[Robert Winchelsey], Archbishop of Canterbury
John Gobaud, sheriff of Lincolnshire

Richard de Seuerby, bailiff of Lincoln.
Note
Dated on the basis that John Gobaud was sheriff of Lincolnshire between 21 May 1302 and 14 October 1303, but on the evidence of the petition is now out of office. Like the surrounding petitions, this one seems to date from before the death of Edward I, giving 1303-1307 as the probable date.
