Nature of request
Letter from the chapter of Beverley to Edward I, regretfully explaining that they cannot put into effect his wishes concerning master Peter Aymerici, their fellow canon, because, when his commands arrived, only two canons were present at Beverley, and they could not grant or confirm anything in the matter without summoning their brothers; but, when they have been summoned, they will be happy to do what they can for Master Peter, according to the law and custom of their church.

The letter is dated to 1302-1307 with SC 8/9/412, the petition with which it was formerly enclosed. The letter is dated in its dating clause to 9 kal. August (24 July) 1302. On the petition it says 'Copy of letter 23 July 1302' - but both Kennedy and Cheney say that 9 kal. Aug. is July 24.
