Nature of request
The abbot of Evesham states that although he has been sent a summons of the Exchequer for four hundred and fifty marks for the service of four and a half knights' fees for the king's war in Gascony in the twenty-second year of his reign, he is not obliged to perform this service, nor did he or his predecessors ever do so, except in the king's presence: and this is according to the tenor of his charters from the king's ancestors. He requests that the charters be upheld in all points, and his church maintained as it was previously.

The treasurer and barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered by a writ of Chancery that, when they have examined the abbot's charters and heard his arguments they are to do justice, with respect for the king's estate.
