Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/8/397
Date
[c. 1326]
Description
Petitioners
Walter de Loundres (London), parson of the chapel of Bockingfold.
Name(s)
de Loundres (London), Walter
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Bockingfold,
Kent.
Nature of request
Walter, parson of the chapel of Bockingfold states that an inquisition was held on certain injuries done to him and to his chapel, and returned in Chancery, and Walter sued the former chancellor in all possible ways to have execution of this, but could not, and still cannot, achieve anything. He requests justice from the king, so that his chapel is not disinherited.
Nature of endorsement
Let the inquisition be produced.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1326 on the guard on the basis of CIM 1307-49 p.220 (no.882): the commission for this inquisition is dated 13 December 19 Edward II (1325) and the inquisition was held on the Wednesday after St Hilary following (January 1326). This is presumably the inquisition mentioned in the petition.Robert Baldock, the former chancellor, was imprisoned on 16 November 1326. But he replaced John Salmon in 1323 so he could be the former chancellor referred to. CPR 1324-1327 p.112 mentions a grant of the prebendal church of Bokyngfold to Robert de Silkeston, on 22 March 1325, which confuses matters further. Rot. Parl. vol. I, p.438b, no.34 mentions the manor of Bockingfold being in the king's hand as the result of the forfeiture of Bartholomew de Badlesmere.
