Nature of request
Gilbert de Grimesdale, son of Joan, daughter of Robert de Muncaster, Roland de Richemound and Margaret his wife, and Agnes, daughter of Robert of Mulkastre, state that Robert de Muncaster, father of Joan, Margaret, and Agnes, whose heirs they are, purchased the manor of Newland with it appurtenances in Bolton in Cumberland, from his brother Walter de Muncaster, for himself and the heirs of his body legitimately engendered; but contrary to this, he alienated it to John de Harcla, who then further alienated it to his brother Andrew. It is now in the king's hand through Andrew's forfeiture. Gilbert, Margaret and Agnes request grace and a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Faithful people are to be appointed in Chancery to enquire, in the presence of the keeper of the forfeited lands in Cumberland, into the truth of the contents of the petition, on the king's behalf. And this inquisition is to be returned in Chancery, and justice is to be done there.

Note
Date given on the evidence of Rot. Parl. JRS Phillips (PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337) says that these petitions probably all do belong to 18 Edward II, although there is no indication that they were presented either at the non-parliamentary assembly of October 1324 or the parliament of June 1325.
