Description

de Ferrers, Henry
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Henry de Ferrers states that his grandfather, William de Ferrers, leased eleven acres of waste in Shepshed to Lady Helen la Souch, paying 36 shillings annually, and died seised of this rent; and furthermore that his son, William de Ferrers, was seised of it during the times of Lady Helen, of her son Alan, and of Robert de Hoylaunde and his wife Maud, one of Alan's daughters and heirs, until Robert was forfeited. Through this forfeiture the waste is in the king's hand, and the rent has been in arrears since then. Henry requests that he might have this rent
Nature of endorsement
Faithful people are to be appointed in Chancery to enquire into the truth of the contents of the petition etc., in the presence of the keeper etc.; and, when the inquisition has been returned in Chancery, if it is found to be true, the keepers of the manor are to be ordered to pay him the rent from the issues of the waste etc.
Places mentioned

Note
The date is written on the guard of the petition, on the basis of CIM 1307-49 pp.220-221 (no.884), where the commission is dated 15 July, 19 Edward II (1325), and the inquisition to the Thursday after the Nativity of St Mary (September 1325).
