Description
Petitioners
Tenants of the manor of Woodstock.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The tenants of the manor of Woodstock, with its members Wootton, Combe, Stonesfield and Hanborough, who are the king's bondsmen and hold certain wastes and assarts, paying a certain rent for them annually, accounted for in the issues of the manor of Woodstock state that William de Cleydone has seized these lands into the king's hand, together with everything standing or growing on them, which is a great part of their sustenance. They ask for such a remedy that they can live off their labour, and can hold the lands as they have done in the times of three kings.
Nature of endorsement
The Justice of the Forest is to be ordered to do justice, or to explain why he should not. And in the meantime their lands are to be delivered on sufficient security etc., because it is found by a remembrance of the Exchequer that they holds their lands by assessment, and pay their farm.
