The prior states that whereas he and his predecessors have always held the manor of Blubberhouses in free alms, by charters of their feoffors, confirmed by the earl of Cornwall, then lord of Knaresborough castle, and by the present king, John de Wauton, constable of Knaresborough castle and keeper of the honour of Knaresborough distrains the prior for rent: for which he requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Faithful people are to be appointed in Chancery to enquire, in the presence of the constable, into the truth of the contents of the petition, the inquisition is to be returned in Chancery, and, if what it claims is found to be true, justice is further to be done in Chancery.

CPR 1324-7, p.106 dates John de Wauton's appointment as constable of Knaresborough castle to March 6 1325. A note on the petition says that Rot. Parl. dates this petition to 1320, but says that it is probably later.
