John de Clyvedon states that the people of Guernsey, Jersey, Sark and Alderney informed the king's council that Otto de Grandsoun had left the isles, so that they were without a warden: so custody of them was entrusted to John. But Otto has returned to his custody and appointed Gerard Dorme as his lieutenant, with other suitable ministers under him. John asks to be discharged, since he can be of no advantage to the king where he is, and to have permission to return to England to serve him there.

CPR 1324-1327, p.14 (the appointment of John de Clyvedon as warden of the Channel Islands) is dated at Guildford, 1324 August 4); CCR 1323-1327, p.391 (notification that it is no longer necessary for him to remain there) is dated at the Tower, 1325 July 16. The petition can therefore be dated to the first half of 1325.
