Nature of request
The burgesses of Newcastle-under-Lyme make two requests:3) They state that they hold their town of him by charter, for the farm of 40 marks, which is not specified in their charter; they request confirmation of the charter, with mention of the farm.4) They ask not to be put on inquests, assizes or juries with foreigners concerning foreign matters, and that no foreigner be put on inquests, assizes or juries with them concerning matters concerning the town, or things done in the town, unless they concern the king, his heirs, or the community of the town.
