Nature of request
Thomas de Furnival and Joan his wife, who is one of the heirs of Theobald de Verdun, state that they are not fully seised of their share of Theobald's inheritance in Ireland, but John de Bermyngham, earl of Louth has distrained them, and continues to do so, to do homage to him, claiming that they hold of him, whereas they cannot know their share for sure until all the heirs are of age, and each one has what belongs to him, and knows to whom he should attorn. They request that the king order the earl to cease from such distraints until the heirs are of age.

They are to have a writ to the earl, that if the land is not divided, he is not to distrain.

Note
One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
