Description
Petitioners
People of Great Yarmouth, Little Yarmouth, King's Lynn and Dunwich.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The people of Great Yarmouth; Little Yarmouth, King's Lynn and Dunwich state that they had granted the king their ships, at their own cost, to go to Scotland for eight weeks, and these ships are ready: but the king has now asked them to make ready all the other ships, at his wages, without consideration for fishing or anything else, and these ships, both fishing vessels and others, have been seized by John Perbroun, admiral of the fleet. They ask that the king inform them how many ships he wants, besides those previously granted, and they will be ready to go where he wishes, at his wages, or that he might give them permission to go about their business with their ships; otherwise they will be ruined.
Nature of endorsement
It pleases our lord the king to state how many ships he wishes to have, besides those which have been granted to him, so that the remainder can go to fish for their advantage and that of the realm.
