Description
Petitioners
Adam Hunteman (Huntman), merchant, citizen of London.
Name(s)
Hunteman (Huntman), Adam
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
merchant
Nature of request
Adam Hunteman states that he complained in a previous parliament that in the twelfth year of the king's reign he filled thirteen bales, containing seventeen sacks of wool, in London, to take to the staple of St Omer, John, lord of Fiennes, and his people took this wool on the high road between Guines and Wissant, carried it off to his castle, and did as he pleased with it. Adam then had letters from the community of London to John requesting delivery of this wool, and then several letters of the king's under the great seal, and also under the privy seal requesting the wool or its value; but he did nothing. So an arrest was awarded against him by writ of chancery, sent to the sheriffs of London, to levy the money from his goods and chattels and those of his people in those parts. But none of their goods came to London, so Adam delivered his writ in Chancery at the last parliament, at the command of the chancellor, and had letters under the great seal to John to give him the wool or its value, with damages, before last Ascension, and to inform the king by letter what he intended to do. At Easter in the fourteenth year Adam delivered the letters in person, in the presence of the mayor, of English merchants and of others. John then said that he would reply to the king by his messenger: but has done nothing. He requests that he might be able to have the value of his losses, and damages, from John's goods and lands in England.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue before the chancellor.

Note
The petition is dated to c. 1321 as it must be dated after 7 March 1321 (date of letter SC 8/7/323A enclosed in petition), which would make the date of 15-16 Edward II (1321-1323) suggested by Rot. Parl., vol I p.387ff and PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415 seem about right.
