Nature of request
The burgesses of Grimsby state that the people of Old Clee, Itterby, Hole, Thrunscoe and Humberston, little vills and hamlets only two leagues from Grimsby, have within the last ten years established a market where by rights there should be none, diverting merchants from Grimsby, losing the king the customs and other profits he used to have from the town. They request grace and a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
A writ of inhibition is to be issued, on the complaint of the community of Grimsby, to the people of the aforesaid vills, that they are not to hold a market there to the harm of the said town, other than used to be done in the past.

One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
