Nature of request
Ralph de Wyndesore states that he was seised of various lands and tenements in Wimpole in Cambridgeshire in his demesne as of fee and right, the late Nicholas de Segrave, together with others who are still alive, disseised him of them. He brought a writ against Nicholas and the others, but Nicholas died after the writ was purchased, and the king seized the tenements into his hand, because Nicholas held other tenements of him in chief. The king gave the tenements to Edmund de Bohun and Maud his wife, who sued to him for them, as Maud was Nicholas' daughter and heir. They are now in the king's hand again, because Edmund was an ally of the late earl of Hereford, and is in prison. Ralph requests a writ to the justices before whom the assize is pending, for them to hold the assize, notwithstanding the king's seisin.
Nature of endorsement
Edmund is in prison, and so he is to await his release.
Places mentioned
Wynpol (Wimpole), Cambridgeshire.
People mentioned
Nicholas de Segrave
Edmund de Boun (Bohun)
Maud [de Boun (Bohun)], wife of Edmund de Bohun
[Humphrey de Bohun] earl of Hereford
Note
The petition is dated to 1322 because it is clearly in the aftermath of the failed baronial revolt as the petition makes mention of Edmund Bohun being imprisoned because he was an ally of the late earl of Hereford who died fighting with the earl of Lancaster at Boroughbridge. One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
