William complains that, when he was appointed by the commission of the sheriff of Warwickshire and Leicestershire to commandeer horses and carts in those counties to send to Scotland, on the orders of the present king's father, Piers, prior of Monks Kirkby, John Pardieu of Kirkby, Richard de Pailton, chaplain, William Davy of Kirkby, Piers le Hayward, Adam Inge of Kirkby and Robert son of William Wodeward of Pailton came with force and arms, and on the king's highway called the Fosse, which runs between Warwickshire and Leicestershire, beat him and left him for dead, and took a cart of the prior's which he had seized. He requests justices, namely John Peche, John de Cave and John de Peyto, or two of them, to hear and determine (oyer and terminer) this trespass.

Note
One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
