Description
Petitioners
Richard de Cave.
Name(s)
de Cave, Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Richard de Cave states that while he was in the service of the bishop of Ely, protecting the Isle of Ely for the king, John le Keu and other unknown people came to the towns of Bedford, Beham and Sherington, and took and carried off his corn, livestock, and other goods and chattels to the value of a hundred marks and more. He requests a remedy, in consideration of his service in England, Scotland and elsewhere, and of the fact that he was never against the king's peace, but always was, and will be, ready to serve him.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have recourse to common law.
Places mentioned
Isle of Ely, [Cambridgeshire]
Bedford, [Bedfordshire]
Beham [unidentified]
Schirington (Sherington), [Buckinghamshire]
Scotland.
People mentioned
[John Hotham] Bishop of Ely
John le Keu.
Note
The petition is dated to 1322 as the reference in the petition to the petitioner's good service and that he was never against the king's peace seems to reveal that this is after the failed baronial revolt. In addition the petition may precede two entries in CCR 1318-1323, p. 451 which are dated at York, 20 May 1322.
