Description
Petitioners
Richard de Bokland (Buckland).
Name(s)
de Bokland (Buckland), Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Richard de Bokland states that one month after Easter in the seventh year of the king's reign, a fine was levied before William de Bereford and his companions, justices at Westminster, between Henry de Buckland and his wife Alice, complainants, and Master Simon de Glediseye, deforciant, concerning the manor of Buckland with its appurtenances, by which Simon granted and delivered the manor, in the king's court, to the aforesaid Henry and Alice, to hold for term of their lives. After their deaths it would remain to Reginald, Henry's son, and to his heirs begotten of his body; and if he should die without such an heir, to his brother Richard and the heirs begotten of his body. After Henry's death, Alice leased the manor with its appurtenances to Bartholomew de Badlesmere, for the term of her life; because of his forfeiture, it has now been seized into the king's hand by his ministers. He requests that he might have the manor as his right according to the purport of the fine, as his brother Reginald died without an heir of his body, and Bartholomew de Badlesmere had nothing in the manor except for term of Alice's life - and she is dead.
Nature of endorsement
They (sic) are to show their fines in chancery, and the truth is to be enquired into, and what reason demands is further to be done.
