Description

Name(s)
de Thoucotes (Tockets), John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
John de Thoucotes states that he holds a messuage and a bovate of land in Thornton of Edmund de Hastinges by suit and the service of 2 pence per annum for all services, and two bovates of land in Thornton of John son of Alan by the service of 2 pence per annum for all services, but that Edmund and John acquit him of suit of court at the king's wapentake of Pickering, and perform this themselves for these tenements and others, as mesne tenants between the king and John de Thoucotes. However, the bailiffs of Pickering are distraining him to perform this suit, and for this he requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ against those who should acquit him.
Places mentioned
Thornton (Thornton-le-Dale), [North Riding of Yorkshire]
Pikering (Pickering), [North Riding of Yorkshire].

John son of Alan (Fitz Alan)
Bailiffs of Pickering.
Note
One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).Forest of Pickering p.241 seems to date the petition to 1321, but gives no reason.
