- Nature of request
- John de Sutton complains that the men and horses of Giles de Beauchamp stayed in the manor of his church between the king's last coming to Pontefract until the Monday in Easter week last, with Giles' full knowledge, and took from him four cart-loads of hay, forty quarters of oats and a hundred quarters of rye for their sustenance without making any payment, or any tally to the guardian of the place - so that when they left he has no corn for seed or for sustenance of his people. Of this corn they sold part, carried part off to Pontefract, and did as they pleased with the rest, giving the guardian of the place no say in what was done. He requests payment, according to the proclamations and statutes solemnly published by the king.

Note (Additional information about the record)
- The petition dates to 1322 as it is clearly in the aftermath of the failed baronial revolt. One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
