Nature of request
Alan de Hellebeck states that the king assigned Ralph son of William by his commission as guardian of the goods and lands of Robert de Clifford in Westmorland, for which he was fully paid by the king, but that Ralph made Alan de Hellebeck take £10 worth of various foodstuffs by force from the poor people and others of the country, for which they have not been paid. Alan is now prosecuted for this payment, and requests the king's grace, since he was forced into this, and has nothing to hand over to the eyre in acquittance except by averment of the country.

One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
