Nature of request
William de Northoo requests that he might be able to give one messuage, one virgate of land, and sixty shillings worth of rent in Edburton, Southwick, Kingston and New Shoreham to the chaplain of the church of St Andrew, Edburton, and to his successors in perpetuity, according to the form of a writ of the king of Ad quod dampnum and of the inquest held on this, which were returned into Chancery after Trinity last; and that the said chaplain and his successors might be able to purchase a further forty shillings worth of land and rent, to increase their income and maintain the service of God.

One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
