Reference
SC 8/5/243
Date
[1322]
Description
Petitioners
[William de Bromley] abbot of Burton-upon-Trent
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Burton sur Tent (Burton-upon-Trent), [Staffordshire]; Needwood, [Staffordshire]; Barton-under-Needwood, [Staffordshire].
Note
The petition is dated to 1322 as it is clearly in the aftermath of the baronial revolt of 1322, the lands being in the king's hand because the lands of the earls Ferrers having passed to the earls of Lancaster, and then having been forfeit by Thomas of Lancaster. One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
