Nature of request
He states that 100 sheep of his were taken and driven out of his manor of Fryston to the king's manor of Thorne, within the honour of Pontefract, by Thomas de la Hay, on the pretext that they were being seized for the king's use, and from there were driven to the south by the same Thomas for his own benefit; with the exception of sixty of the most valuable sheep, which remained at Thorne as the king's chattels, in the keeping of Thomas de Eyvill, on the pretext that they had been seized for the king's use. He requests that he may be able to recover these sixty sheep and have delivery of them.
Nature of endorsement
Thomas de Eyvill is to be ordered that if it can be established that this is the case, the sheep are to be delivered to him, if he can reasonably prove etc. If necessary, there is to be an enquiry into the truth.

Note
One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323). CCR 1318-1323, p.639 confirms that Robert le Vavassour was dead by April 3 1323.
