Description
Petitioners
Robert de Weston; Adam Ingleys of Boroughbridge.
Name(s)
de Weston; Ingleys, Robert; Adam
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Robert de Weston and Adam Ingleys state that for two and a half years they have held the town of Boroughbridge, with its mills, the rivers Ure and Ouse, and other profits, from John de Wisham, constable of Knaresborough castle, and that they will not be able to levy the farm of the said town: firstly because of the action of enemies in the area, especially Thomas, earl of Lancaster, who destroyed the king's granary in Boroughbridge, and took and carried off corn and money stored there; secondly because the sheriff of York, and the people of the city, often had all the ships in the rivers between York and Boroughbridge, from which they used to collect a toll, seized, for fear of possible danger to the city; and thirdly because they cannot collect through-toll on the goods of merchants and others passing through Boroughbridge, as, because of the enemies, they do not dare to come. Therefore they ask for an allowance for these losses, so that they are not ruined.
Nature of endorsement
The king will enquire into their damages and losses, and will further do what pleases him.
