Description
Petitioners
Robert de Hanneby (Hanby).
Name(s)
de Hanneby (Hanby), Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Robert de Hanneby complains that Thomas de Gousulle, on the instructions of the sheriff of Derbyshire, as is said, seized the said Robert's goods and chattels at Rounlee, claiming that he was one of the adherents of Thomas earl of Lancaster, whereas he was not one of his retainers at that time. Therefore he requests that these goods and chattels be returned to him.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be sent to the sheriff that he is to provide information on the manner and cause of the seizure of the goods, and on what goods and chattels were seized.
Places mentioned
Rounlee, [Derbyshire].
People mentioned
Thomas de Gousulle
sheriff of Derbyshire
Thomas [of Lancaster], earl of Lancaster.
Note
The petition is dated to 1322 as it is clearly in the aftermath of the revolt and defeat of Thomas of Lancaster. One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
