Nature of request
William de Stokke and John de Langebregge state that certain lands in Hungerford, Standen, Charlton, and Colmannessaundre remained to them after the death of John Hommedieu, by virtue of a fine in the court of the late king. After his death they entered these lands and were seised of them, until John Hommedieu the younger expelled them with force and arms and enfeoffed Thomas, earl of Lancaster with the aforesaid lands and tenements, which came into the king's hand after the earl's death. Therefore they request a remedy

The petition is dated to 1322 because of the reference to the grant of the lands to the earl of Lancaster, and to those lands then coming into the king's hand which clearly refer to the execution and forfeiture of the earl after the battle of Boroughbridge.CIM 1307-49 pp.151-2 (no. 604) includes a commission dated 28 May 15 Edward II (1322), and an inquisition dated on the Saturday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross 16 Edward II (the Saturday after 14 September, 1322).
