Description
Petitioners
Margery de Buzy, widow of John de Buzy.
Name(s)
de Buzy, Margery
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Margery, widow of John de Buzy, states that Nicholas de Putewyneshal was seised of a messuage, sixty acres of land, six acres of wood, four acres of meadow and an acre of pasture, with appurtenances, in Haverhill, which he gave to John de Buzy and his wife Margery, and to John's heirs: as is a matter of record. John was seised of these lands during his entire life, but two years after his death, Margery was expelled from them by William de Goldington and others. She sued through the common law, but her suit was ended by William's death. She started a new suit against John de Goldington, William's son and heir, but this has been ended by John's forfeiture: his lands are now in the king's hand. She requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.John de Goldington is still in prison: therefore she is to wait for his release.
Places mentioned
Haverhill, [Essex].
People mentioned
Nicholas de Putewyneshal
John de Buzy, late husband of the petitioner
William de Goldyngton (Goldington)
John de Goldyngton (Goldington), son of William de Goldington.
Note
The petition is dated to 1322 as it is clearly in the aftermath of the baronial involvement of that year, Goldington being one of those who forfeited. One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
