Description
Petitioners
Walter de Seint Aundreu (St Andrew).
Name(s)
de Seint Aundreu (St Andrew), Walter
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Walter de Seint Aundreu states that William Tuchet, whose lands are seized into the king's hand on account of his forfeiture, was bound to the petitioner in an annuity of £8 and two robes to be received from his manor of Preston and Cowley in Buckinghamshire for the term of his life, and bound over his manor to distraint as a guarantee of this, into whosesoever hands it should fall; and he was seised of this annuity, as was found before the sheriff of Buckinghamshire when he took the manor into the king's hand because of William's forfeiture. Therefore he requests that it may continue to be paid to him.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.He is to show what evidence he has for this, and the said justices are to be appointed to enquire into the truth of the matter; when the inquisition is returned, justice is to be done.
Places mentioned
Preston (Preston Bissett), [Buckinghamshire]
Covele (Cowley), [Buckinghamshire].
People mentioned
William Tuchet
Sheriff of Buckinghamshire
Note
The petition is dated to 1322 as it is clearly in the aftermath of the baronial revolt and defeat at Boroughbridge. One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., dated to 1321-1322. PROME::Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rot. Parl., vol. I, pp. 387-415 confirms that they appear to belong to these years.
