[1322]
Description
Petitioners
William Blaket.
Name(s)
Blaket, William
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
William Blaket complains that Phillip de Aylisbury, sheriff of Buckinghamshire, attached him with all his goods and chattels, imprisoned him from the feast of the Annunciation last until now, and had him brought under guard to this present parliament by his bailiff, Henry de Westdene, because Geoffrey de Bolestrode maliciously gave him to understand that William was an adherent of the king's enemies - without giving any other reason, and without this being enquired into or found by jury, although William had sworn an oath to the king before Robert de Welle at Isleworth, when the king was last there, among other good people of the county of Hertfordshire, and was never against the king, but always ready to serve him. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
The sheriff is to be ordered that if he is captured for that reason only, then he is to be released together with his goods etc.Afterwards the sheriff presented an insufficient reason before the council, so it is ordered that he is to be released, together with his goods etc.
Places mentioned
Hertfordshire
Isleworth, [Middlesex].
People mentioned
Phillip de Aylisbury (Aylesbury), sheriff of Buckinghamshire
Henry de Westdene, bailiff of the sheriff of Buckinghamshire
Geoffrey de Bolestrode
Robert de Welle.
Note
The petition is dated to 1322 as the order to the sheriff to release the petitioner was issued on 20 May 1322 (CCR 1318-1323, pp. 450-451) As the petitioner refers to himself as having been brought to the present parliament and the order for release is dated at York in May 1322, it is clear that the petition is one presented to the May parliament held at York in that year.
