Nature of request
Malkak requests remedy concerning lands that his grandfather granted to Roger his son with an entail on the heirs of his body, and which lands Roger sold to the Templars. Malkak sued for their return as the next heir of the original donor but was thwarted first by the suppression of the Templars, and then by the seizure of the lands by the earl of Lancaster. The lands are now in the king's hands by the earl's forfeiture.1)
Nature of endorsement
He is to show in court what he has of the form of the gift, and the muniments of the Templars and of the earl of Lancaster are to be searched, and if anything is found barring of his demand, the truth of it is to be enquired into, and returned, and further, justice is to be done.2) Coram rege.

The petition dates to 1322 as is noted in the heading in Rot. Parl., vol I, p.387. and because the petition makes reference to the fall of Thomas of Lancaster, so it must be later than 16 March 1322.
