Description
Petitioners
People of Cornwall.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The people request remedy concerning the collection of corn and wine by Archdeacon for the use of the king within the country. They show that whereas he had a commission from the king to take the corn and wine, he has resorted to attaching the people of the country for their corn despite there being a shortage of wheat, and has taken wine, all without offering payment or showing his commission. He has also appointed his own bailiffs and threatened the people to the scandal of the king.
Nature of endorsement
Thomas is to be commanded by a writ containing the force of this petition, that he is not to go beyond the form of his commission, and if he has done anything against the form of the commission then he is to make redress, so that the king hears no further complaints. And if he does not make redress for things that he has done beyond the form of his commission then the king will make an example of him.
