Description (What the record is about)
-
- Petitioners
- William de Wellesley.
- Name(s)
- de Wellesley, William
- Addressees
- King.
- Nature of request
- Wellesley shows that he had the keeping of the castle of Kildare, but was ousted from it by a subsequent grant of the king. When the Scots came he agreed to maintain the castle, for the costs of which he received the keeping of the wardship of the lands of Rale. Botiller holds the lands and will not allow Wellesley to have them so he requests that the king grant him Rale's marriage, and order by writ to the justiciar of Ireland to deliver the keeping of his body and the lands and that he be able to enjoy them without disturbance.
- Nature of endorsement
- He should come into Chancery with what he has of the gift of the king, and let full justice be done to him there.
- Places mentioned
- Kildare, [Ireland]
- Ireland.
- People mentioned
- John son of Thomas (Fitz Thomas)
- Richard de Rale
- Thomas de Botiller.
-
Note (Additional information about the record)
- This would appear to date to after 1318 when Wellesley received a grant of the wardship of Rale from the king which presumably was the original grant from which he made the claims and requests in this particular petition (CPR 1317-21, p.217). The guard comments suggest a date of 1319-1320, and this seems acceptable.
