Stacy, Humphrey

King and council.
Nature of request
Stacy shows that various quantities of grain were taken from him in the 3rd year of the reign by Pelham. When he went to demand payment Pelham had him thrown into prison. Humphrey sued a writ of imprisonment by order of the king granted outside parliament, and from that time until the present the matter was not able to come to an inquest as those who would hold it were frightened by Pelham. He requests payment and that he grant that he have execution of the law.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the delay in judgement he should have a writ to the justices before whom the plea is pending that they should proceed to judgement with speed.2) Concerning the money owed coram rege.

John de Pelham.
Note
The dating is difficult. The reference to an order had from the king out of parliament may refer back to the earlier parliamentary petition surviving as SC 8/4/170. This petition would therefore be some short time after 1320. The document is contemporary with SC 8/4/172 which is a petition by the same petitioner and in the same hand.
