Description
Petitioners
[Stephen Gravesend], Bishop of London; Dean and chapter of London.
Name(s)
Gravesend, Stephen
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
London
Nature of request
The bishop and dean and chapter request that the king order the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer to allow them the amercements of their tenants, and the chattels of fugitives and felons from their other franchises which they have by royal grant, and which were marked with a stamp of St Paul, as this is no longer done.
Nature of endorsement
There is another general petition in common for the community of the realm.
Note
The petition is dated to 1320 when the justices were ordered to supersede rendering judgment in this matter (CCR 1318-23, pp.306-7), and because a summary of the duplicate of this petition (SC 8/86/4273) is enrolled on the roll of the Michaelmas parliament in that year. This petition can therefore be dated to that parliament.
