Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/4/155
Date
[c. 1315]
Description
Petitioners
Converted Jews of London.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The converted request the payment of the arrears which they received in alms for their sustenance for their lives from the king's ancestors, and from the king at the Exchequer. The surviving converted are greatly impoverished by the default in its payment.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered by a writ to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that the arrears contained in the petition be delivered to Adam de Osgodby, keeper of the house of the converted for the sustenance of the converted of the same place.
Places mentioned
London.
People mentioned
Adam de Osgodby, keeper of the house of the converted.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1315. A note on the guard dates this to c. 1315. The endorsement makes reference to Adam de Osgodby, the keeper of the house of the converted or conversi. Adam de Osgodby was appointed by Edward II on 12 November 1307 as keeper (CPR 1307-13, p.15). He died at some point in mid to late 1316, and was replaced by William de Aryrmynne, who was in office by 26 October 1316 (CCR 1313-18, p.374). The petition must date to some time between those dates. It is possible that an order to the treasurer and chamberlains to pay arrears owed to the conversi issued on 28 May 1315 relates to this petition (CCR 1313-18, p.183). However, it refers to different sums than contained in the petition, so it is possible that a date of c.1315. is too late.
