Nature of request
[The petition was part of a longer list of petitions subsequently cut up].The chancellor requests that officers and juries concerning inquests of felons before justices be from outside the town, and that the towns people as well as the clerks be forbidden from carrying arms, with the chancellor having the right to punish offenders in default of the mayor. The chancellor has ordered that masters and scholars should not carry arms, though they have been badly treated and injured by townspeople who still do, and who are acquitted at inquests by the pledge of their neighbours.

The chancellor should have a writ to the mayor that he should inhibit on behalf of the king the carrying of arms by laymen in the town, except ministers of the town.
