- [The petition was part of a longer list of petitions subsequently cut up].The chancellor, masters and scholars request remedy for their grievance as the sheriff and bailiffs of Oxford have not made a proclamation concerning the sale of ale in the town that was ordered by the king.

- The petition is dated to 1320 by the heading in Rot. Parl., vol I, p.365 for the parliament held on Monday in the octave of St Michael, 14 Edward II. I t must also date closely to the writ (SC 8/3/132B) with which it was formerly enclosed.
