Nature of request
Writ to John le Irreys concerning the liberty of Durham upon which the bishop has made complaint by petition, and which Irreys is ordered to appear before the king and his council at Westminster in the octave of Holy Trinity to inform them of the circumstances concerning the matter of the taking of Barnard Castle and the manor of Gainford into the king's hand.
Nature of endorsement
Irreys informs the king and his council that he took the castle and manor into the king's hand by a commission of the king because of the death of Guy de Beauchamp, late earl of Warwick who held them in chief from the king by knight's service by the gift of Edward I. It should pertain to the king because Beauchamp's heir is within age.
