SC 8/3/117
Date
[c. 1316]
Description
Petitioners
Edmund Everard.
Name(s)
Everard, Edmund
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Nature of request
Everard requests that the King grant a writ of pardon to the Exchequer so that the tax of tenths and elevenths is not demanded from him. He has been in the service of Edward I of Gascony, and had that King's protection. At that time he was assessed by the collectors of the tenths and elevenths on all his goods as others were, and the assessment was returned into the Exchequer, though Edward I did not wish those in his service to be so assessed because of their service. Now the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer are demanding the money from that assessment.
Nature of endorsement
It is ordered to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that if they are able to find that Everard was with the king's father in his Gascon wars, then having viewed the writ of pardon in their possession he is to have allowance to the Exchequer.
Note
The petition is probably dated to 1316 because of the similar or duplicate petition found in Rot. Parl., vol I, p.346b (no.36), so that it follows the date of the title in Rot. Parl., vol I, p.337 referring to the parliament at Lincoln after the octave of St Hillary, 9 Edward II.
