Description
Petitioners
Henry de la Pomeraye (Pomeray) and Peter Corbet.
Name(s)
Pomeraye (Pomeray); Corbet, Henry; Peter
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Pomeray and Corbet request that they can have their inheritance by way of law, and with the king's grace. They state that they are the kinsmen and heirs of Roger de Vautort, and Roger enfeoffed Earl Richard of the castle of . . . Trematon with the advowson of the church of the vill, together with the borough of Saltash, and the manor of Calstock, with the advowson of the church of the town, to hold to him and his heirs from his body begotten, and if the Earl or his heirs died without heirs of their bodies begotten, then the whole should revert to Roger and his heirs which is fully contained in the charter made by Roger to the Earl. Following the death of Edmund, earl of Cornwall, Pomeray and Corbet sued the king that the same should revert, and that they be able to have their inheritance, whereby the king ordered by a writ of Chancery that the executors of the earl should produce all documents concerning the same, which they did at the last parliament. However, Pomeray did not turn up to that last parliament, and he was summoned to be at the next parliament. They are now in parliament to sue their case.1)
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.2) They are to sue before Roger le Brabazon and his associates in the quindene of Easter, and there show anything they have to show for themselves; and in the meantime the writings and muniments are to be searched for the lord king; John de Benstead is ordered to search for the charter etc., and a writ of the king's Chancery is to be made to Roger and his associates, after they have heard the arguments of the petitioners and seen the muniments, they are to certify the king etc..
