Reference
SC 8/3/113
Date
[? 1316]
Description
Petitioners
Brethren of the hospital of St Giles in Holborn.
Addressees
Council
Nature of request
The brethren state that they are a royal foundation, and that the king's progenitors granted to them, and the present king confirmed to them 60s. per annum to be taken at the Exchequer for clothing for the lepers of the hospital. The brethren request that the council order the treasurer and chamberlains to pay to them the arrears of money according to the purport of their grant and confirmation.
Nature of endorsement
None.
Places mentioned
Holburne (Holborn), [London].
Note
The dating of this petition is problematic, as it clearly relates to SC 8/3/110, but does not seem to be contemporary with it. As the other petition seems to be in some ways a more professional petition that was presented at parliament, and this one was merely to the council, it is difficult to be sure of the sequence. It is possible that this represents a later petition for arrears that had again built up following the successful resolution to the 1316 petition.
