Description
Petitioners
William de Mulcastre (Muncaster), late sheriff of Cumberland.
Name(s)
de Mulcastre (Muncaster), William
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
late sheriff of Cumberland
Nature of request
Mulcastre requests that the king order a further enquiry as to whether part of his farm leviable from the county of Cumberland from a fishery amounting to 10 marks was leviable, and if not, then he be allowed the same. He had previously petitioned for an allowance from the diverse issues from the county because he had not been able to levy them because of the damage inflicted by the Scots, and by the armies of Edward II and his late father. By an inquisition ordered by the king this was found to be the case, but because he omitted the fishery from the previous petition he has not been allowed it.
Nature of endorsement
The treasurer and barons of the Exchequer are ordered that if it was established by the inquisition or by other means that the fishery within written pertained to the farm of the county, then an enquiry is to be made into how much from the fishery Mulcastre in his time levied or ought to have levied, and how much he was not able to levy by the causes contained in the petition, and they should make an allowance to Mulcastre just as to them by the inquisition or by other means is established as legitimate.

Note
The petition is dated to 1316 by the title in Rot. Parl., vol I, p.337 referring to the parliament at Lincoln after the octave of St Hillary, 9 Edward II.
