Nature of request
The people of Sevenhampton request remedy for they are being tallaged by Nicholas Pershete, the keeper of the manor of Sevenhampton when they should not be tallaged. When the manor had been in the hand of the countess of Aumale they had granted that they would pay the sum of £6 10s. at the time when her son was made a knight, and her daughter was married. Afterwards, when the manor came into the king's hand, the keeper saw this in the accounts of the time of the countess under the name of a tallage, and charged them for the sum. The people impleaded the late king who ordered his writ to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer, a transcription of which is sewn to the petition by which he respited the people forever. Pershete though having been discharged at the Exchequer still charges the people.
