Nature of request
The earl shows that whereas by the death of John de Metham who held the manor of Pollington by knight service he was seised of the manor by the minority of Thomas son and heir of the John de Metham, which seisin he enjoyed for a year and a half until Richard Squire by a commission which he had of the king for the seizure of the lands that were Robert de Stiveton on the day that he killed Hugh Scot in York, and deprived the earl of the manor of Pollington, and still retains it. The earl requests that the manor be returned together with the issues, and to hold the same until the heir is of age as John de Metham held nothing of the king in chief on the day of his death.
Nature of endorsement
Whereas the chancellor remembers that Ralph son of William and other faithful people of the king were lately assigned to enquire upon certain things pertaining to the petition; and it is ordered that Ralph send the record and process of his actions. When this has been sent coram rege he will provide full justice to the complaints contained within this petition. And in addition Richard Squire is ordered to be before the council of the king at Westminster on 25 June to inform the king and his council of his actions and the cause of the taking of the same into the king's hand, and on the contents of the petition.

This petition can be dated fairly closely to 1315 by the title contained in Rot. Parl., vol I, p.289 which notes this as being 'Responses made in the presence of the king and his great council in the parliament of the king after the Octave of St Hillary, in the 8th year'.
